Keeping Kono Language Alive

Nimo Wama? If Nor To We? - Social Media Kono Language Group.

This is a social media group comprising indigenous Kono speaking people. It also contain non-indigenous Kono speaking people who were born and bred in Kono. Together we are all Konos that are trying to keep the language alive. The district has Kono, Kissi tribe in the North-East and Koranko around Sandor Chiefdom, mainly along the boarder with Koinadougu district. There are also Kono-Fulas, Kono-Mandingos, Kono-Temnes, Kono-Mendes and a host of others.

Kono district is a cosmopolitan place with a population representative of people from all over the world. This is because of it's diamond rich soil which is the main source of attraction. Because of the influx of foreign nationals, the Kono language has been influenced by multiple languages in almost every chiefdom. The language is also been kept alive by Konos in the diaspora who are encouraging each other to not only speak, but teach their children for the sustainability of the language. The interest is growing rapidly and much progress is been made.

Nimo Wama tell interesting Kono stories, and proverbs, sing beautiful Kono songs and more. Bravo to all members of this group. Everyone is welcome to join the group and support the speaking of Kono.
